After more than 20 years on the air, A piece Anime has a large collection of iconic openings. Adapted from Eiichiro Oda’s pirate adventure manga of the same name, the anime is full of both funny and dramatic moments, and the openings reflect that very well. As the show evolved, so did its openings.
When the show started, its OPs were much simpler, mainly showcasing the characters and their fighting techniques. As the show went on and the Straw Hat crew grew, the openings changed subtly, often featuring their own mini-adventures that served to showcase the different characters’ personalities. Finally stronger A piece Villains like Kaido and Big Mom were introduced, the style changed again, highlighting the battles and the important moments to come. But whatever their style, some of these OPs are better off than others.
10 Opening 15: Here we go!
“We’ll go!” This is the anime’s 15th opening, which takes place right after the time warp. It was a pleasant opening with a high energy song showcasing the new designs of Straw Hats. It also includes a great sequence showing the Straw Hat transitioning to Luffy and reminding viewers that both Shanks and Gol D. Roger continue their legacy. If the opening had been thought of as just a blank, perhaps its simplicity would have prevented it from making this list, but in fact it shows One piece Reuniting after a long hiatus, the Straw Hats add a lot of emotional weight to this opening.
9 Opening 18: Hard Kick Days
“Hard Knock Days” is the OP for the second half of Dressrosa and spends a fair amount of time referring directly to the events and characters in that arc. But she also spends time displaying Straw Hats in much more casual situations, like shopping or listening to Usopp and Brook at Thousand Sunny. It provides brief glimpses into the Straw Hats’ lives, some great little details like Usopp’s prevention of Zoro’s disappearance, and shows how much care has been put into this OP. Combining that with an iconic shot of the Straw Hats standing in the smoking wreck of a naval base makes this OP easily A piecethe most fun.
8 Opening 22: Extreme
“Over the Top” is the first opening to showcase Wano’s distinctive animation style and is therefore a visual feast. Luffy also shows off the new designs of all the Straw Hats in this arc as he passes by Komachiyo. The opening also puts a special emphasis on Kaido, who serves as the arc’s ultimate villain, hinting at other main characters in Wano. Luffy and Kaido also have a great fight in the OP that foreshadows their fight in the arc. But perhaps the best part of the OP is the beginning, where Luffy is forced against the chains that imprison him and shows the struggle for freedom he portrays throughout the anime.
7 Opening 11: Share the World
“Share the World” is an opening that covers episodes of the Sabaody, Amazon Lily, and Impel Down arcs, but as dark as those arcs can be, the OP itself is actually quite refreshing. Sure, it still heavily features the main threats and characters in the arcs it covers, like Kuma and Supernovas, but doesn’t let that weigh it down. Like many of the other openings on this list, it shows the team having fun with unrelated unfortunate adventures; Including a funny joke that Luffy falls into the ocean only to have Brook and Chopper try to save him. Moments like this prove that friendship between the Straw Hats can shed light on even the darkest of turns.
6 Opening 8: Crazy Rainbow
“Crazy Rainbow” A piece‘s 8th OP is set in the highly regarded Water 7 arc. However, what makes this opening so great is that it barely touches on the events of that arc, focusing instead on showing the Straw Hats hanging out together, playing on the beach, and doing things like shopping. While in other anime this can be seen as a negative, here it is a reminder of how fun Straw Hats can be. After all, the beating heart of the series is not action-packed fights or epic moments. Instead, the family found One piece Straw Hats are formed and OP 8 is the best reminder of that.
5 Opening 24: PAINT
“PAINT” A piece‘s latest OP, and easily the most emotional. It serves well to highlight the arc’s emotional interests, by showing the destruction Kaido has inflicted on the people of Wano and the damage he has already done even to his own family. It also serves to illustrate the various powerful influences associated with Luffy, who represents pirates like Rocks, Roger, and Shanks, who are fighting against both Yonko and the World Government. Just like OP 22, the beautiful animation style makes it a visual feast. Moments like Luffy reaching for his hat underwater or swords falling from the sky are breathtaking and easily earn the OP a spot on this list.
4 Opening 13: One Day
“Someday” is the only OP on this list that doesn’t include the Straw Hats interacting with each other because they are separate in the Marineford arc it covers. Instead, the opening spends its time showcasing the myriad characters involved in the Battle for the Summit. This kind of display in another show might be boring, but A piece, where each character is detailed becomes a testament to just how epic the Marineford arc really is. The OP also highlights Luffy and Ace’s relationship with short flashbacks. Ace’s death at the end of Marineford gives this OP more emotional weight, making it both epic and tragic.
3 Opening 4: Have a nice trip
“Bon Voyage” is another opening that is not actually related to the events of the arcs it covers. But it makes up for it by highlighting how great the team is together. The photos of the Straw Hats hanging on the beach in the beginning are really fun, and the fact that they are all seen walking together soon highlights highlights how the team has grown. But right after these refreshing moments, the OP gives his audience a heartfelt punch, highlighting the heart-wrenching backstories of all the stories. One piece Straw hats. The fact that they can still get together and have fun after that is a testament to their great resilience and shows what makes Straw Hats so great.
2 Opening 14: Fight Together
“Fight Together” takes place at an unusual point in the series. Luffy is still coping with Ace’s death and the various Straw Hats are scattered. The OP highlights this by showing how the Straw Hats try to improve during their time apart, which is nice to see. But the real power in this opening is how each Straw Hat joins the team and shows the impact it makes. One piece Luffy each had a life. It’s a gauntlet of tearful moments that show that even when the team is apart, they will always be together because of their huge impact on each other. It easily makes OP 14 the most emotional of the show.
