Remnant 2, the sequel to the critically acclaimed Souls-like third-person shooter from 2019, Remnant: From the Ashes, is gearing up for a Summer 2023 release date, and as reported by IGN, the developers have recently unveiled a new class. The archetype is the Handler, whose main gameplay element is a permanent canine companion who fights alongside you.
As seen in the heartwarming trailer below, the dog appears to be not just a talent or a combat-specific companion, but a partner that will follow you wherever you go. Gunfire Games lead designer Ben Cureton explained to IGN that the idea for Handler was to create an archetype for players who want to jump solo, but that Handler can be just as effective when playing in a group.
As IGN breaks down, the dog can be switched between three modes: Guardian, where he howls to draw aggression from enemies, Support, where he can actually heal the player and their allies, and Attack, where he goes for all-out damage. The dog’s bandana changes color every time its mode is changed. You can also direct your dog’s location with the ping system.
Finally, if you have a Dragon Heart (this game’s renewable healing potion) and you die, the dog can revive you and you can continue the fight where you left off.
As explained in a lengthy and detailed Steam news post, Remnant 2 will arrive packing a new Archetype system, unlike the original Remnant, where each Archetype will gain unique abilities, abilities, and skills that can only be used by that particular archetype. What you choose when you start the game is important.
The archetype you chose in From the Ashes gave you some weapons, gear, and features that encouraged a particular playstyle, but as you progressed you could replace each of them with whatever you preferred, so archetypes were just a start. point more than anything else.
This is no longer the case here, and the best example of this is the Handler. The canine companion, though unspecified, is apparently the Handler’s main Attribute. It’s been confirmed that the dog can resurrect you as the Handler’s Prime Perk. This is the main ability of an Archetype, where you can only have one, even if you combine two separate models in one Class.
